Wilson Soars to State Title

February 12, 2017

The Pacifica Tritons of Oxnard were well represented today at the California Winter State Championships, hosted by VS Athletics at Arcadia High School. The Triton Boys finished 11th place overall out of 74 high schools. (Oxnard 22nd, Rio Mesa 52nd)

Kamar Wilson successfully advanced through the rounds to set up a jump off showdown for the state title. With a clearance needed for the win, he rose to the challenge and solidified his name as the 2017 California Winter State Champion in the High Jump.

Cyrus Prudhomme advanced into the final heats of the Boys 60m dash where he ran a season's best to break into the top 20 for the state of California.

Ray Ortiz and Gonzalo Chavez joined Wilson and Prudhomme to finish off the day with a 4th place finish in the boys 4x200 meter relay.

Sandra Harness had a busy day as she competed in 3 individual events, and a relay race. The 60m hurdles and 60m dash were back to back, while the triple jump competition was simultaneously underway. She finished the day with a top 20 finish in the triple jump.

Camille Codera and Dajshai Bennett, who also ran in the 60m dash preliminaries, joined Harness and teammate Jasmine Guerrero to cap off the day with a top 10 finish in the girls 4x200 meter relay shaving a second off of their season's best.

With the Winter season over, the Tritons now look forward to next week's Black vs. Green Intrasquad home meet, joining the rest of the team to signal the start of the outdoor Spring season.
